A special way to get into the spirit of Christmas is to visit Cochem Castle on 9th and 10th December 2023 and experience its live nativity play.
The traditional Christmas story is brought to life in the courtyards of the castle by actors in historical costumes and live animals. All the while the symbolic star of Bethlehem shines from behind the thick castle walls. Players act out the Christmas story. A shepherd awaits Mary and Joseph and the other visitors in the outer castle bailey and accompanies them on the arduous search for accommodation from inn to inn, in order to find a warm place for the night. They stop by at the shepherd’s camp with real sheep to warm themselves by the fire.
The highlight and final scene of this 25 minute guided tour in German language is the stable in Bethlehem with Mary, Joseph and baby Jesus, as well as shepherds and animals around the manger. Here the archangel announces the birth of Jesus to a trumpet fanfare. The brightly shining star shows the three kings from the Orient the right way and they present their gifts at the manger to the baby Jesus.
The shepherd’s impressively told Christmas story is especially popular with our younger guests. Visitors enjoy not only the story and its presentation but also the wonderful costumes and the shepherds’ and farmers’ many animals, which even in their role as extras, leave a lasting impression.
Finally to round off your visit you will find atmospheric Christmas market stalls with Christmas nibbles and products which invite you to linger a while longer.
Tickets are only available from 01.11.2023 in our onlineshop.
