Musical Trip around the World

Enjoy an amusing and entertaining musical world tour brought to you by the Genoveva Vocal Ensemble under the direction of Andreas Barth.

Friday, April 26th at 8 p.m. at Reichsburg Cochem’s Knight’s Hall

To go on a trip around the world without even standing up from your chair – Burgfestspiele Mayen’s festival choir under the direction of Andreas Barth makes that dream come true! Our night of music subtitled “Wenn einer eine Reise tut…” (“When travelling around the world…”) takes the audience on a fantastic journey into the world of musical hits of the last 7 decades.
Beloved Musical melodies from musicals such as Les Misérables, Evita or Miss Saigon take the audience across Europe and to America. Then straight on to the Romanian Carpathians with Dance of the Vampires, to London with My Fair Lady, to late 19th century Vienna with music from Elisabeth. A journey through time and space, if you will, embedded in literary travel testimonials. As always, choirmaster Andreas Barth will be hosting the evening with his cabaret-like introductions to the songs.

In November of 2023, Reichsburg castle has received a premature Christmas gift – a concert grand piano manufactured by Bechstein in 1869 as a permanent loan. It is now placed in the Knight’s Hall next to the fireplace. The grand piano was handed to Jens Michels, resident of Cochem who restores grand pianos in his spare time, by its former owner. Grand piano manufacturer Bechstein would have loved to acquire the gem for its inhouse museum, but as a technical exhibit, no-one would have ever heard it being played again. Jens Michels then offered the grand piano to Reichsburg GmbH as a long-time loan. There couldn’t be a more adequate place to showcase this beautiful grand piano than the Knight’s Hall, as it is the original location of the former grand piano that once had its place in late 19th century Reichsburg castle. With our musical trip around the world, our concert grand piano celebrates its premiere.

Please note that the Knight’s Hall can still be chilly in the end of April. We kindly ask you to wear appropriate clothing.

The musical evening is brought to you with generous support of
